TORC @ Ashby Woulds MCC, July 3rd 2005

Saturday's practice time was spent refining set up and gearing options developed from previous visits to the Ashby track earlier this season. With a happy balance arrived at, confidence was good for a successful day's racing on Sunday.

Qualifying Rd 1.
A warm dry day dawned, giving perfect track conditions, setting off from 2nd position behind championship leader Ian Wittingham a steady run netted a time of 19/312.05 resulted in 3rd overall after 5 minutes. With a car feeling a little nervous over the increasingly bumpy track now found at Ashby, the set up was thought through carefully prior to Rd 2 of qualifying.

Qualifying Rd 2.
Failing to improve on the 1st qualifying time due to a couple of minor off's, Dewi maintained 3rd position overall with no improvements in times for his fellow competitors.

Qualifying Rd 3.
A change of wheel rim construction for the final qualifying run, in a attempt to settle the nervousness evident throughout the preceding rounds of qualifying, Dewi found the car to be transformed and safer to drive near on or the limit. With the track at it's hottest, no improvement in overall time was evident, but with the customary fine handling of the FK05 now restored, 3rd overall in qualifying would provide an excellent starting point for the Finals to come.

Final 1.
Off to a flying start, Dewi immediately claimed 2 position from Andrew Smith and set off in pursuit of leader Ian Whittingham. With another good overtaking manoeuvre on the banked section at the top of the Ashby track, Dewi moved into 1st position on the 3rd lap, Ian Whittingham maintained a massive pressure for the following 4 minutes of frantic racing, with never less than a cars length separating the two, Dewi was never headed, eventually a slight mistake by Ian in the final minute enabled Dewi to pull away for the victory.
Result:

2nd: Andrew Meakin XRAY T1FK'05

Final 2.
The opening lap of the second final saw a couple of 1st corner incidents which resulted in Dewi ending lap 1 in 4th position overall, with leader Ian Wittingham the only driver to escape any delay, he had set off into an unassailable lead which he maintained for the full 5 minutes duration of the race. However, the real race for positions cantered on the battle between Dewi and Andrew Meakin for 2nd and 3rd positions, the spectators were treated to a titanic battle throughout which eventually was settled in Dewi's favour by the smallest of margins.
1st: Ian Wittingham
2nd: Dewi Jones XRAY T1FK'05
3rd: Andrew Meakin XRAY T1FK'05

Overall Results:
